Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51M spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It additionally is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
